Arrested While Black

Yes, I'm a white person, and yes I'm still STUNNED just to be finding this out now, but apparently black folks like James Blake are not the only random mistakes cuffed and slammed to the ground, but it turns out to be much more of a regular occurrence than you might have thought.

So, check out these latest amazing stories:
Then the story of the woman who was cuffed, straitjacketed, and put in a psych ward for 8 days for rocking out to music in her car at a stop light in. This story I wanna red in the mainstream press, but it does appear to be a real woman not a "agitblog" prop. This appears to have actually happened! Harlem.

And of course, this inexplicable story of a recalcitrant teenaged girl in class slammed to the ground for disobeying direct instructions. What? You couldn't get a second person and get her chair out of the classroom and into the hallway?

At what point does this new, "crazy" America stop?

When do the cops doing these things just go, "Yeah, she is refusing to get out of her car, but no, I'm not going to dig into her vagina to make a point that you do what the police say, when they say it."

I'm astounded that in Police Academies, this is what they are obviously taught to do. This is clearly standard operating procedure. Maybe it's time to stop "standard operating procedure," and revisit how cops are being trained. Let's encourage them to try a different approach than the type of police work we see in Palestine and Israel, here in America.

This is America for chrissakes. Let's arrest and detain folks legally and as Americans expect. I realize that in places like Israel, there is an entire population of second class citizens, but in America, we can no longer be cool with second class citizenship. We must expect more from our police; let's start with police training.
