Candy Supermarket?  Well...it's the Midwest After All
A new week, a new Monday.
This week I bring you some of the best of Columbus, Ohio, a rather unremarkable American city with a remarkable food culture. We’ll start where all the best food starts, at the market. There are two critical market stops in Columbus. The first is Giant Eagle Market District in Upper Arlington.

Welcome to the Best Grocery Store in the World, located in lowly, little, low profile Columbus, Ohio. Of all places, Columbus! OK, maybe the second best, since Houston has GRAND CENTRAL MARKET.
The fun part of this three-football-fields-sized superstore is that you can traverse its miles of floors with a glass of wine in your hand and not look like a lush. There are plenty of folks doin’ it.
Giant Eagle puts 90 Point wines on tap, and you just serve yourself (for a fee, of course)! For $10, I tasted a whole bunch of high end wines and was finally able to settle on a terrific German Riesling that was stones and acidity and grace.

From there, I ventured into a world of food, prepared and otherwise. I seem to be missing a ton of photos, unfortunately, but If I can get my hands back on them, I’ll post them too.
I’m missing images of the Bologna section, which was a hoot! And entire refridgerator devoted to the cold cut. Just the one.
I had great images of the python filet, the duck, the Cornish game hens, and alligator. I mean the meats section carried just about every D’ARTAGNAN-packaged meat you can imagine. And from the looks of the place, it sells tons of food to tons of people.
Frankly, this place has so much food in it that I’m surprised the population of Columbus is big enough to keep it in business.
