Straight out of Canton comes Dangerously Delicious Pie Co. After opening a shop in Washington’s H Street Corridor, I was particularly excited at the prospect of going there for Sunday after ‘Topher got out of church.
He was so amenable to my suggestions—perhaps all that prayer makes him easy prey for my pie crust appetites—that I just told him to get in the truck. It was time to try another part of town.
I brought him to a little transplanted piece of Bal’mer if anyone ever did, Hon. It was a swell luncheon of what can only be called pie overkill at the Dangerously Delicious Pie Co. And the best part of the experience is that you not only get awesome pie, but also a floor show from the post-church ladies who troop through in their fashion furs and crowns. After singing in church for the morning, it’s time for a little pie, no doubt.
Pancake Batter Pie
We were apoplectic with hunger and so we devoured our savoury pie slices in fairly short order, and followed those pieces with a lovely GEWURTZTRAMINER. As such, they went down a treat. Next day, I mention all this to CURVYMAMA, and she said that as a piemaker, even she can’t expect to successfully shove in two full pie pieces in one sitting and hope to feel anything but stuffed.

We followed our entrées with two dessert pie slices; one a blackberry pie and the other a house original—pancake batter pie. I cannot begin to tell you how delicious this concoction was. I think they’re really known for their out-of-the-ordinary pie flavors. But this one was not unlike a buttermilk chess pie. Silky and sugary with a crunch that comes from out of nowhere.
Owner Rodney Henry
I think the TATTOOS ON THE OWNERand the employees and the location on the edge of town make the place a special journey should you find yourself in DC for a day. “We salute you. In Pie We Crust!” as their motto reads. Just 13 1/2 blocks due east of Union Station by cab. And once they install the brand spankin’ new trams they’re talking about putting in, it’ll take just minutes from the train station.
The Renaissance of the H Street area is a site to behold all on its own. Come for a visit, sit for a spell, and load up on your carbs and fats.
